New LED Reduces Lighting Consumption by 65%

Alvan Blanch Barley Grass Drier

This has been the next phase of the Alvan Blanch factory investment, all to create a better and more productive working environment for our factory staff. An environment that ensures greater efficiency, with no compromise in the quality of our manufacturing.

Over the last few years, we have been making structural changes to our factory, with several new sections being added – creating extra work space and enhancing the aesthetic of the factory. These changes also mean that the older areas of the factory are getting a makeover too, with new roof sections and the new lighting.

Phase one of the operation will see a large area of the factory have completely new roof sections, and brand-new lighting. These new roof panels will mean the removal of the current sky lights, and replacing them with vertical ones, allowing for an increased amount of natural light on the factory floor.

Alongside this natural light, we are also making great improvements to increase the artificial lights within the factory. An essential change not only for the dark winter nights, but also for our carbon footprint here at Alvan Blanch.

Not only will these new LED lights create a warmer and brighter environment within the factory, but these lights will also serve a greater purpose. We are all becoming increasingly aware of the way our behaviour effects the planet we live on, and Alvan Blanch are no exception. This lighting will have a considerable impact on more than just the aesthetics of the factory.

These new lights will mean that we save around 65% per year on energy, bringing the costs down by around £15K per year. This is an incredible saving, with this money now freed up for the optimisation of other areas of the business. Not only are we going to reap the economic benefits, but the environmental benefits are also extremely impressive.

The current lighting system produces around 49,000kg per year of carbon emissions, the new lighting will only produce around 18,000kg per year. This means that by making this change, we are reducing our carbon emissions by around 30,000kg per year – something we all see as an impressive and necessary change.
